About the oikos Winter School 2005

Structure:

The oikos Winter School 2005 combined lectures, discussions and working groups. Enough room was also provided for informal get-togethers.

Learning:

The first two days of the oikos Winter School provided participants with insights into the current sustainability debate at business schools, in the corporate world and society at large. Speakers reflected on the challenges posed and opportunities provided by long-term economic, environmental and social developments. They also had a look at the way different actors shape the debate on these issues within and outside business faculties. During a first interactive part, participants dealt with change constraints they find at their home Universities.

Exploring:

On the third day, participants played changing roles in a debate on specific sustainability challenges. Participants thereby had the opportunity to dig deeper into various issues, make connections between different parts of the discussion, and set priorities. The debates also allowed participants to reflect on the past presentations and challenge their own assumptions and beliefs.

Designing:

The fourth and fifth day were devoted to the design of concrete events or projects. Each participant was given a platform to develop and present an event or project that he/she pledged to implement at his/her university within the next 12 months. This platform also included a focus on change management and organizational skills.
