Eco-friendly refurbishment of historic house in the Prague's Old town with use of natural materials and feng-shui principles. Excursion includes a lecture by Oldrich Hozman on “Aesthetics and Human Soul in Sustainable Architecture"(official website here).

Modern energy-efficient office building with high-tech ventilation systems. Architect Jiri Koukolik will show you all the technologies from the roof to the engine room and you will learn about the long-term economic perspective of the design (emphasis on low maintenance costs).

  • JRD low-energy apartment houses

Environmentally friendly housing solutions for high quality living.

  • National Technical Library

A “hi-tech living room” for students with innovative interior design and a smart cooling and ventilation system. Won the Czech Grand Design Award in 2009. This excursion will be led by architect Petr Lesek from Projektil, who will introduce and discuss possible approaches in eco-friendly architecture based on his experience in the field.

Workshops


  • Architecture of Low-energy Future

How will we live in a low-energy future after peak oil? How will our architecture and communities look like? Workshop participants will be encouraged to develop and rethink their own low-energy future scenarios and present them in a simple graphic way - with an emphasis on architecture and urban environment. Workshop leaders: architects Petr Janoš and Zdenka Němcová Zedníčková.

  • City brownfield redevelopment

Participants will be introduced to the field of post-industrial city brownfields, visit a selected one and develop a strategy for it, taking into account sustainability, historical monuments care, genius loci and community life development. Workshop leader: architect Michal Mačuda.

Learn about the concepts of ecological and carbon footprint with Viktor Třebický. Count your own and compare it with other workshop participants to see where you can improve. Examine the footprint of oikos activities.
