27-30 April 2006
The oikos Presidents Meeting 2006 took place in Bayreuth.
Grown over centuries, the former Margravial residence is world famous today for the annual Richard Wagner Festival. The biggest city in Upper Franconia with about 74.000 inhabitants, gateway to the Fichtel Mountains and the romantic Fränkische Schweiz, is today a modern university and conference town, has a strong economy and is well on its way to be the high tech centre of the region.
The Presidents Meeting 2006 was hosted by oikos Bayreuth.
oikos Bayreuth was founded in 1988 as a student organization at the University of Bayreuth under the name of "Bayreuther Initiative für Wirtschaftsökologie". Since 1992 the organization is an official association. In 2001, the organization joined oikos International.
Outcomes
The meeting included several sessions with regard to local chapter work and was opened by a speech of Frank Henke, Global Director of Social and Environmental Affairs adidas Group. Focussing on the global supply chain of the adidas Group he explained classical CSR and QSHE problems faced by the whole textile and apparel industry with its complex suppliers and sub-contractors structure: Using products of up to 500 companies for one product without even knowing all of those companies makes it hard to walk the talk when it comes to social and environmental engagement.
