Conference: Challenging Consumption Patterns - Rethinking Urban Transport

oikos International - Topic of the Year Conference with UNEP / UNESCO, the Shell Foundation and the RATP Paris, Monday 28 April 2003 following the oikos International Presidents Meeting 26th, 27th, April 2003.
Already in 1992, Chapter 4 Agenda 21 on Changing Consumption Patterns was underlining the fact that Sustainable consumption is a topic that combines various but strongly connected sub-topics.
The oikos International day conference will be build around two blocs. First a morning session in which a general introduction on what “challenging consumption patterns” means with various speakers (UNEP, Industry, Academia, etc). The programme is built around topics outlined in the UNEP-report and corresponds to its working groups.
The second part (afternoon session) takes theory to a more concrete level with the “case-study” of urban transport and the role of public transport in promoting a sustainable framework in which sustainable consumption could become a reality. In this section we stress the responsibility of retailers, town planners, public transport companies and of the private sector in general.
