Being an oikos PhD Fellow is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. oikos Fellows develop entrepreneurial driven project management skills while at the same time building scientific expertise relying upon an excellent research platform at the University of St. Gallen, a leading European management school. They can also take advantage of the vast global network of oikos. Each Fellowship carries a 36-months-grant of CHF 108,000.
The curriculum consists of an intensive preparatory phase of courses (Course Phase) during the first year within the regular doctoral study Programme of the University of St. Gallen, followed by two years of advanced studies and research (Dissertation Phase), which are devoted to the writing of the doctoral thesis.
The Programme intends to promote innovative and relevant research in the field of sustainability, management and economics. Research topics may address any relevant area within this field. oikos PhD Fellows may conduct research in a program of their choice within the 5 doctoral Programs offered by the University of St. Gallen.
Each oikos Fellow will be supervised by a senior researcher from the University of St. Gallen and an academic supervisor of the Fellow's choice from St. Gallen or another university. Selected PhD candidates will be supported in finding their individual PhD program and supervisor.
In addition, oikos Fellows are encouraged to attend and submit papers to relevant academic conferences during their fellowship. oikos will cover registration costs and travelling expenses up to a maximum rate of CHF 900 per quarter, on the condition that the fellow presents a paper at an approved conference.
oikos Fellows commit to invest 30 percent (1.5 days) per week to supporting international oikos activities. Fellows will have the opportunity to shape international key projects within oikos. We therefore look for entrepreneurial driven personalities with the ability to manage an ambitious PhD research project while simultaneously leading international project activities.
